Investigating and Assisting Interactive Document Triage in Electronic Environments
Abstract
Document triage is the critical point when information seekers first decide the relevance of a
document to their information need. This process is not yet clearly understood. In order to support
the effective search for information within digital societies, an examination and formalisation of this
complex process is undertaken. In this abstract we present findings from user studies which guide the
formulation of models for the document triage process. Prototype high-fidelity electronic software
tools to assist information seekers are also introduced and demonstrated. Future work is outlined
aiming to refine the understanding and development of this field of research.
