| dc.description.abstract | The 2 sociological factors which have had a profound impact on the development of Greek libraries are the slow reconstruction after 4 centuries of Turkish domination and the ever present influence of politics. At present there appears to be a centralised collection of books with a decentralised distribution of libraries. Describes the organisation and operations of the public libraries which encompass 3 basic types, county, municipal and children's and examines public attitudes towards librarians and the public perception and legal status of libraries.
