The article discusses a research study which found that lack of congruence between analyses and conclusions limits the usefulness of study of socio-cultural influences on undergraduate student's decision to study library and information science (LIS) in Greece. The analyses were aided by the use of the Educational Career Index and the Divergence Index. Two factors explained the variance in data, which are the response of students to library stereotypes and self-reported reasons for choosing to study LIS. The four reasons for studying LIS were extrinsic reasons, intrinsic professional reasons, intrinsic academic reasons and intrinsic social reasons. The researchers identified three clusters of students who used the indices and parental education level.en
