The LearningOnline Network with Computer-Assisted Personalized Approach (LON-CAPA) is a fully integrated cross-institutional learning content management and assessment system initially developed at Michigan State University. Architecturally, it is based on a cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary content library out of which instructors can select and sequence learning content including sophisticated online homework and exam problems. The paper discusses new avenues for content management, which are opening up once that a course management system leaves the “course container.”en
